big book giveaway extravaganza heading your way!
I admit it, I'm a hussy.
I love my Sony Reader, and with a passion that knows no bounds. I
truly do. Yet I cheat. Regularly. With paperbacks. The
scent of freshly printed paper, the feel of the pages as they slide past your
fingers, the weight of a book in your hands... *shiver*
For those of you who share my secret love, this holiday season, starting
December 1st, I'm giving away a triple pack of
autographed paperbacks, winners'
choice to one lucky reader!
And since I love this time of year sooo much, I'm doing another triple
giveaway at Goodreads!
WATCH THIS SPACE COME DECEMBER 1ST
FOR ALL THE DEETS!
* Giveaways end midnight December 7th 2011. One winner for each contest. Winner will be notified through media by which they entered. Follow Ally on twitter, follow her at Goodreads, and like her at Facebook for her latest news and musings and behind the scenes goss as well as more fun surprises throughout the year!

There is great debate amongst my friends about this topic. Some have iPads/eReaders and so read their downloaded books, some listen on their iphones to audio books. I can see the attraction, but for me, nothing will ever trump a real book: the sensation of holding it, the feel of the paper, turning the pages, even the smell of a new book reels me in. Books are friends, there is a book for every occasion and to suit my mood. There is comfort reading, books for when I need cheering up, or a good cry(Nerilka's Story) and there is no happier sight than all my books lined up on their bookcases, all seventeen of them. I have tried an electronic reader, but you can't really read in the bath, or let a Labrador or two lie and jump on it, or even spill a cup of tea nearby. I remember receiving books as gifts when I was a child and I don't think a download voucher will ever elicit that feeling!! But each to her own, and my friends swear by the functionality and immediacy of their ebooks, but for me, it's paper books all the way!! And you can't really have an autographed copy of an ebook, or give new parents an ebook to read with their child. It's just not the same.

I am always so close to buying a kindle or sony reader but know that it will never win over the smell of a freshly bought book when you open it or the first crinkle you make when starting chapter one and the satisfied feeling of putting it back on the book shelf read through having a slightly flared pages...mmmm. i do feel a little guilty though... but I just can't help it :)

2Paw, all good points! Which is why I have the best of both worlds - a big fat paperback upstairs for bath, bedtime, and my eReader on the go for daily snippets! Totally agree about the books for kids thing. Love watching my kids enjoy their picture books even if the 11 month old just chews on them ;).

Danielle, treat yourself. I hereby give you permission ;). I'm not sure I would have succumbed if not for my husband inflicting one on me last Christmas and its changed my life!
